Jeff - More bits, lower price for those bits, same revenue. You need some cost numbers to make some assumption on margins. DRAM costs ALWAYS come down. Question is: did MU drop costs as fast as prices came down? Even after prices tanked as much as they did, MU was close in 4Q 96 (with some accounting help on the bottom line). What's to say they didn't do a bit better on controlling costs this Q - we'll find out what "surprise" MU execs were alluding to on Monday.

The name of the game in commodities is keeping costs lower than prices. MU has survived in the DRAM game for a long time - others have come and gone (even mighty INTEL bowed out back in the 80's - couldn't figure out out to win the game). MU survived the Japanese entering the market, then the Koreans, and will weather thru the Tiawanese.
