Dear Waldemar; I spent years as a programmer and can tell you that story is a fable and absolutely untrue. By now plenty of programs have been written (most of the authors were very bright) to convert dates, but sometimes you can't even recognize when a date is being used in a calculation without examining the code in detail. Through the years programmers have used date fields for every purpose you can conceive, and not always just for tracking dates. Also these programs have been written in several programming languages which are very different from each other. No "genius", including Bill Gates, is going to come up with a magic formula and save us from this problem. The closest person to the genius status on this matter that I know of is Ed Yourdon. I believe I read that he is planning to move his family to a survivalist type setting in New Mexico in 1999. Non of this has much to do with the embedded systems that TAVA deals with anyhow.
