So as I understand, the most expensive part of capex buildout is the CPE - which consists of an integrated radio/antenna unit, modems, power supply, multiplexor and router eqpt., and line cards and cabling. Don't know the cost breakdown, but seems radio/antenna units and modems would need replacing in P-MP conversion.
- At Base Station - w/ P-MP, each sector gets a radio and modem (4 to 8 / station). Seems this is different eqpt than P-P and might need to replace the P-P eqpt when on conversion
- (Wireless or fiber) base station to switch transport - will this need upgrading/replacing? Doesn't appear so.
- Switching - other than needing AIN SS7 compliant data switching capabilities, seems this would be radio-transmission-mode independant.
- Don't know how much software work is needed in general, between switch and hub programming, as well as OSS programming, or what is involved in this regard with a conversion to P-MP.
In any case, I appreciate your "compelling economics" retrofit/conversion argument. |
