Ditto on Brill's Content. I got the first issue, which is going to go down in history, and I'm keeping it. I haven't gotten September yet, but he (Brill) really scored with that expose of all the reporters who were beneficiaries of Starr's illegal leaks, especially now that Starr has been reprimanded by the judge.
It's astonishing how just one guy printing the truth can keep the rest of the media straightened out to a degree. There was a guy whose newsletter I used to get, several decades ago, a little mimeographed thing called the Washington NewSletter or something like that. And this guy just printed the straight poop about everything, and made his living selling the newsletter to reporters and newspapers and so forth. I think he had a policy of no unattributed quotes, which helped.
All through the Vietnam war this guy had a tremendous influence because the truth was quite a bit different from what Newhouse and the NYT and Hearst and the Washington Post were printing. And everyone on the right and left respected him. He ended up winning all the prizes, never got rich, I think. I'm supposed to remember his name like my own, but somehow it's slipped my mind tonight.
Maybe one of you can remember it.
Anyway, Brill is set to carry the same baton, albeit more commercially. I hope to hell he makes it. You know when Ken Starr, Sam Donaldson, Cokie Roberts and the American Spectator crowd are all pissed off somebody is doing something useful. :-) This is not a right-left thing. When powerful people lie to you they use all the media.
