Online System Services and Formus Communications Agree
to Demonstrate Systems for High-Speed Services Using
LMDS Technology

August 12, 1998

DENVER, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ via NewsEdge
Corporation -- Online System Services, Inc. (Nasdaq:
WEBB) announced today it has signed an agreement
with Formus Communications Inc. to supply and
integrate equipment that will enable Formus to provide
Internet services over its LMDS (Local Multipoint
Distribution Service) networks. Financial terms of the
agreement were not disclosed.

Under the agreement, Online System Services will install
and integrate an Internet point-of-presence system at
Formus's Denver headquarters that will facilitate
high-speed Internet traffic through an LMDS network
now being tested by the company as it prepares to
deploy broadband wireless telecommunications systems
in the U.S. and overseas.

The technology of LMDS wireless networks have
received considerable attention from industry experts in
the U.S. and worldwide. "LMDS operators have the
potential of being the next serious players offering real
competition in the local loop, which can only lead to
great things for consumers," said FCC Chairman William
Kennard in Reuter's in March 1998. The LMDS
bandwidth allows high volumes of voice, video and data
as well as television signals to be transmitted over the
airwaves to locations within LMDS antennae's line-of-
sight.

"We are proud to work with Formus Communications,"
Steve Adams, Chairman and CEO of Online System
Services, said. "By integrating our services into the
Formus solution, we will be able to effectively
demonstrate the power of the LMDS opportunity over
the next 60 days."
