Paul, I will ask for more details, however this apparently occurred a few weeks ago and started with people holding off orders until after the price drop on 26 July and after that time there was a shortage. One wonders if Intel is teaching the channel a lesson also?
The drop in consumption should have meant lots in stock. In addition the summer slowdown and fall rampup are well known to intel and should not have caused a shortage. The rate of increase in PC sales is less now than in prior years and intel's fabs are far more able to produce larger numbers than in prior years.
