Questions answered with questions

1) We have exhaustively reported here that the Network Computing Online review was faulty because the user did not appropriately calibrate the scanner he received. Why would Identix have the largest installed worldwide base of Bio-ID scanners if they performed so poorly?

2) Identix had the opportunity to incorporate the Veridicom chip into its scanner before NRiD, before anybody else and they chose not to. Why? Is Randy so proud of his own design that he is willing to commit financial suicide? I don't think so.

One of my in-the-know sources believes that in the future the security of a person's private key will be their own responsibility. They will use the same private key for their digital certificates whether they are using a smartcard or buying across the internet. The user will use the biometric device of their choosing to safeguard against anyone else using their private key to impersonate them. The question then becomes - how much biometric security is good enough for you?

Identix will have to distinguish themselves from the $99 scanners when they introduce the new F3-based scanners or they won't sell many. I don't exactly know how they will do that yet, but I assume that they know the competition, since they are the industry leader, and will not waste money introducing a product with features and a price that won't sell.
