>>The PowerVu system also offers a unique screen subtitling solution which uses bit-mapped graphics instead of a restrictive text-based implementation. The system's screen subtitling capability supports virtually any font or character, including Chinese characters, and also supports European, Middle Eastern, and other Asian languages. The 1:4 PowerVu system is installed at TVB's TV City facility in Kowloon, Hong Kong where a PowerVu Telco Interface Unit is used for transmitting the compressed multiplexed signal to Hong Kong Telecom's Stanley Earth Station for modulation and uplink via the AsiaSat 2 satellite.
''Since TVB needed to transmit both of its Galaxy channel signals in PAL and NTSC formats, the flexibility of the PowerVu system enabled them to implement a solution tailored to their unique needs,'' said Mark Chiknas, director of sales for Satellite Television Networks in the Asia Pacific region for Scientific-Atlanta. ''Today, more than 300 PowerVu digital video compression systems are delivering digital television in over 170 countries for a wide range of broadcasters, programmers, and service providers. In the Asia Pacific region alone, there are over 200 satellite channels transmitted by Scientific-Atlanta's digital video compression. The PowerVu system's use all across Asia, as well as the rest of the world, is playing a major role in its selection by industry-leading organizations such as TVB.''<<
