>>LU will start a buying binge to get themselves solidly into datacom.
Obvious targets are COMS, ASND and CS. They have the capital to swallow all three
fairly nicely.<<

COMS has a poison pill. Nobody on this thread has said how
much an acquirer would have to pay for COMS, but it would
be at a much higher price I'm sure. Too much $$ to pay
just for access in the "edge" of the network.

>>That's why Nortel bought BAY and why ERICY
has got to be investingating the same kinds of deals.<<

COMS is allied with SIEMENS. They probably have negotiated
something so that they stick together.

>>While INTC definitely wants to get into networking components, I don't see them trying to be a large telecom/datacom provider. More likely, they're looking at ways to intgrate and support basic network functions on PCs.<<

My understanding is that INTC is getting into networking primarily
to encourage network/internet growth/usage. That way, they will create higher demand for their CPU's. Anotherwords, they're having
trouble with their own business, and figuring out ways to fix
things. (jmo)
