An LCiD design contract! Even announced before the market closed!! Wow! ;-) For a European furnace control module (well, heck, at least we've got the thing off the ground...
Three-Five Systems Wins LCiD Design Contract
TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 12, 1998--Three-Five Systems, Inc. (NYSE: TFS) has received its first European design-in award for its patented Liquid Crystal intense Display (LCiD(TM)) technology.
The customer, an industrial control manufacturer based in Italy, has contracted the Tempe company to design an LCiD(TM)-based furnace control module.
The LCiD(TM) technology provides manufacturers with a back-lit liquid crystal display that looks like an emissive LED display but has several important advantages. These can include higher information content, higher contrast, lower power consumption, sunlight readability, and availability in hundreds of colors or color combinations.
"We have always believed that industrial controls would emerge as a major application for our LCiD(TM) technology, and this agreement is the first step in proving that to be true," said James Bowser, Three-Five Vice President of Business Development.
Bowser said that, in addition to replacing LED displays in a variety of industrial, commercial and communications products, the LCiD(TM) also has the potential to replace vacuum fluorescent displays in home appliances.
"A production contract from this customer is expected to follow the successful completion of the design-in phase," Bowser noted.
