Hi everyone, here's some notes on my visit to StarTronix yesterday (12/12).
Be aware that the following are my comments and may not reflect the actual wording provided by StarTronix staff.

The FCC problem has been resolved. The StarScreens required a minor adjustment to reduce the RF emissions to meet FCC regulations.

As far as the shipments mentioned on previous posts by Rick Chitwood (Jonathan Gulla's teleconference this week), the shipping should start today (Friday) as previously mentioned. About 200 units are expected to be shipped per day. The staff at StarTronix is working long hours to make this happen. We should be receiving some responses from Field Partners later next week as they begin to receive their StarScreens.

The 10K report is expected to be released soon (perhaps today?).

Here's a list of some new items (some were previously posted):

- 500 POP sites (PSI Net). The listing at the PSI Net website does not list all 500. An up-to-date listing should be available this week or early next week. More POP sites will be added as needed to service FPs. StarTronix has arranged to use some local ISPs to provide internet connections to those located in rural areas (or other areas far from current POP sites).
- The StarScreen connection to the internet will have what's called an "OC3" connection. This type of connection provides about 10 times the capacity of a typical T1 line. In laymans terms, this will provide less delays and quicker access to the StarTronix Online Service for StarScreen users than is currently available. The new connection and servers (Sun Sparcs I believe) are expected to be on line in a week or two.
- MPEG 2 is being used by the StarScreen. This is the latest for the MPEG standard.
- The StarScreen can display 16 million colors on its active matrix display (@ 640 X 480). This is despite having only 512k of VRAM. I was told that LCD screens do not have the same video memory requirement as regular computer monitors. I did see 16 M indicated on the video display menu of the StarScreen.
- Net2Phone will be available (with the video conferencing and internet phone) 1st Qtr '97.
- The external peripherals (floppy, hard disk, CD ROM, tape drive) will be offered by StarTronix soon. Pricing is currently being negotiated with suppliers.
- Online shopping is available. Not all of the products are available online at this time, but are being added on a regular basis.
- Genealogy reports are expected to be available in the next week or so.

It appears the "Real Beginning" of StarTronix and the StarScreen is about to happen!
