I attended a Brinker live broadcast a few years ago and in the off air sessions he admitted that he doesn't always practice what he preaches. For example, he disclosed how he had a highly margined position on MSFT once and earnings came out just under expectation and his position was creamed the next morning. He was using that as an example of how NASDAQ stocks can open 30% lower than they closed the day before and you have no opportunity to get out "in between".

Also, he trades a lot, and none of that shows up as a recommendation in the letter. For example, he has stated on the radio many times that he uses (used?) INTC as a "trading stock".

As to the question about where new money would come from if he was following his own advice and DCA'ing into funds continuously, remember that Marketimer generates $185 x let's say 40K subscribers = $7.4M per year! That alone is $616M/month gross, less some postage and paper expenses and few subscriptions to Barrons, etc. Add in the radio appearance fees and fees from the few managed accounts, then deduct taxes (but no state income tax in Florida! nice strategic location!) and you can see that there should be $500M or so at any time "laying around" ready to be put to work.

I don't begrudge him the money. He has found a niche for himself in the economy and is using his God-given talents to exploit it, just as any of us would. I don't see a big difference between him and an entertainment or sports icon; he just practices his art in a different genre.

I honestly believe he has a lot in common with Rukeyser. The primary thing both bring to their listeners is a voice of stability, encouraging people to disregard the day to day and focus on the long term. That is most of the game.
