The bible did not advocate the inquisition or the atrocities performed by man allegedly in the name of God. People that would distort its message of salvation and love as well as judgment for sin took care of that for personal gain.

Still, the deeds were made in the name of god, NOT allegedly.

Same thing with the crusades, and the Moors, not for nothing they were called infidels.... then again, isn't that what the Muslims called the Great Satan (as in the USA).

Indeed, same picture, different actors...

As for "personal gain".... yes indeed, I agree, I wonder what the Vatican (and the other churches are planning for the enormous wealth stored in their vaults, I mean the Vatican is its own country....

So much for the message of "salvation" love and poverty etc. etc. etc.

Yes, salvation indeed.... from what? Talk about fear mongers !!!

Thanks but no thanks, I am perfectly happy without your ideology.

I wonder if there would be a way to place liability and award compensation to the victims of religious based atrocities, and persecution in the same way that it has been imposed on Germany and other countries for their war crimes.

For example all the Latin American tribes nearly exterminated by the Spanish Inquisition, should yield a nice compensation award, not to mention tremendous attorney's fees. Hmmm, now, that's a thought.

Now I wonder why the coincidence between poor countries and religious affiliation, there seems to be a clear co-relation, indeed the more ignorant, the poorer they are, and yes, the more religious followers.
I wonder if that is the way of the future for the richest country in the world, given the new upswing in religious zealots in the US.

You have had much to say here which is your right to do so and even though I realize your disdain for the word of God or faith I am also thinking of those who are genuinely searching for " the meaning of life " who are entitled to hear other opinions

I see, are you suggesting I have a secret button to "exclude" those who may want to participate ?
Or... do I have evil powers (like the Market Makers perhaps, or the shorters), that is stopping people from posting in this here public forum?

Sorry to disappoint you, but, no button, and no evil powers.

Forum is open and:

1. People are free to post whatever they want, I have not suggested that they should not.

2. In two or three instances I have suggested that this is a thread for the discussion of/for the meaning of life, not religious issues.

While I understand that the subjects may be closely related, I am not stopping anyone from posting whatever they want, again, forum is open.

3. I wonder what you are suggesting in your post saying that:

"I am also thinking of those who are genuinely searching for " the meaning of life " who are entitled to hear other opinions
people

Are you saying for me to stop posting ? in other words, Shut-up ?

Sorry I will disappoint you once again.

If you do not want to discuss religion, hey ! better for me, don't bring it up, do not respond to me with your religious stuff, it is quite simple, the less religion is discussed, the better !!

Matthew 12:36

" But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment."

Oh boy !! now I am really scared !!, the bogey man is gonna come and get me ooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh noooooooooooooo.....!!! Besides, they are not idle words, I mean, I practice my own beliefs.

Your quote from Isaiah 34 was part of the description of Gods day of judgment on sin.

Whatever.... it is still violent and fear instilling, particularly upon those who can not or are not willing to think based on reason, or simply different than your ideology.

A last thought about all these new religious soldiers, I would think that if they preach so mush sharing of love, good will, etc. etc. and all the rest, why not in stead of preaching to a society corrupt by so much lack of ethics and morality, why not send all these avid followers to go and preach the gospel in poorer countries, better yet, why not send these followers that talk so much about the love of your neighbor stuff, in suburban America, send them to the African bush, the Latin American favela, or the Asian jungle to distribute their wealth and preach their love, I bet you they are more willing listener (maybe), than us infidels, godless atheists.

Imagine, they could adopt all those babies that are being born in these poor countries, without the hassle of the INS getting in the way of the adoption, imagine all those babies that otherwise will be wasted because their parents can not get the appropriate family planning education or tools of prevention (such as condoms), because the local bishop tells them that it is against the will of god.

Indeed why not you, in stead of debating with me quoting verses of an idiotic and stale book, go to these countries and do as you preach ??

I will not, because it is not my responsibility to care for the mistakes of others, and because I simply do not want to, but likewise I do not preach to others a load of rubbish either.

Whatever my beliefs, good or bad, they are mine and I do not pretend to impose them on any body.

Have a nice life.

Z.

p.s. if you do not want me to continue discussing religion, do not bring it up.

"It is only the savage, whether of the African bush or of the American gospel tent, who pretends to know the will and intent of God exactly and completely."
