Emile, Seems odd that those who claim to have accepted Jesus as their personal savior don't exhibit a higher degree of moral perfection. I wouldn't say that my moral sense has declined since youth. Changed, perhaps, but not necessarily for the worse. Since having children, in fact, I'd have to say that it's probably become stricter, both in theory and in actual observance. As for the origin of the sense of sin, I hate to sound like a broken record, but I think that the human conscience is a clearer expression of the divine will then anything ever written in a religious book. And yes, I do believe in a divine will. Whether it existed a priori or is simply a projection of our collective unconscious is something I can't possibly know, and don't much care about. I know what's right and wrong, and I don't have to speculate on how I know. I believe that all fundamentalism is wrong. We have the capacity to inquire and the capacity to tolerate. Failure to use these capacities is a crime against our own nature. My moral ideal is precisely what leads me to reject fundamentalist Christianity and all other fundamentalist belief systems. I honestly believe them to be immoral. Steve
