I would tend to agree with the second position....
that management is collectively interested in letting the stock remain flat.
1) it gives time for the stock price to catch up with earnings
2) it gives the company an opportunity to execute buy back at a slightly reduced price.

This is still a very strong company and stock....I'm sure that there are a lot of analysts and advisors that are more than willing to 'take advantage' of a depressed market. Broader and longer perspectives know when to let the tape work to their advantage. The stock market is there to service the interest of ALL investors.

All mho, but I'm seeing this pattern in quite a few companies where there are buy backs going on.
