Dan:
Thanks for all the good work.
I can't say I believe that Racom is anything more than the typical go nowhere company until I see more facts. You're commentary is very valuable in light of the dearth of facts, and like most around here, I have very little doubts about the technical strength of FRAM smart cards. (Racom hasn't designed a card for the 16K chips yet, according to their website) So I think Racom may be an even better deal than Ramtron, which will have a very gradual increase in "dominance" once the market recognizes the value in RMTR.
On the other hand, Racom has the potential to slaughter the market with its FRAM. In a world of open standards, the best reusable, RFID cards will be the ones with FRAM. So where does that leave Racom, and how do they get there?
It is unique that this company has only 22 employees. It is a true "venture" company, while RMTR is kind of a "failed venture" company. The small size should allow for much closer contact between investors and the management, than in the average "public" company. Is there anything we can do in an organized fashion to get more specific information? For instance, I would love to attend a shareholders meeting. I don't know if I'll make this one, but I want to meet the people and get a sense for how the business really works. I want to see the plan they are going to use to get from here to there. Maybe the CEO or CFO could post his or her thoughts on this thread? (Like the Intel CFO on the Intel thread) It's not like there are tons of analysts that are going to follow this company. I actually don't think there are any. Hence, Dan, you are the closest to the real thing, and they should appreciate that. If I am correct, this thread in the only source of useful info on Racom.
Bottom line, I need more information before I buy, although I am very interested. We have lots of "background", we need good, specific, company info. First, marketing and strategic partnerships are key for a company which cannot distribute its own product. Second, finances should be worked out, as they will be next month. I agree that big things could be happenning. I maintain a belief that if these guys are smart, they already have an idea of where their money is coming from.
FWIW, it does cost money to issue releases, but we should see more than we have seen. A proxy statement issued with no explanation?
And BTW, me parents always tell the story that when I was a kid, I loved to run down the street naked. Apparently, I was so fast, my parents had a hard time catching me and I would get a block or two down the street. Can't say I popped a willie at that age, though.
