More Viewers Turn On to Cable TV

China expects to have 100 million cable TV customers by 2000, according to industry sources. It is estimated that 70 million people have access to cable TV in China, and connections are increasing at 10 percent annually. The government has approved the operation of 1,200 cable TV companies whose networks now extend to more than 70 percent of cities and counties. The government is using foreign funds to put together a national network, and the next step is to connect the national hub to provincial hubs and then to county hubs.
