MCI Completes Standardization of DSC's Litespan(R)-2000 Access Systems
DALLAS, Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- DSC Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: DIGI) announced today that MCI Communications has standardized DSC's Litespan(R)-2000, a Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier (NGDLC) system, for inclusion in MCI's network. MCI plans to feature the Litespan as one of its access vehicles to be placed in co-location sites, where it will provide service to the growing number of MCI local customers. Litespan offers the scalability required to gracefully grow as an access network element while being hosted off existing Class 5 switches via GR-303 interfaces throughout the MCI network.
Rick Price, director of MCI's Access Engineering, said: "DSC has been a long-standing vendor in our traditional long-haul switched services business. Today, we're transforming into the world's first local-to-global service provider. Litespan will help us deliver world-class services to our fast-growing local customer base."
Tom Wolf, DSC's vice president of MCI sales, said: "Given the wide deployment of Litespan throughout North America, MCI has taken advantage of a proven technology that will give its network the capability to offer a full suite of features, as well as a graceful migration path to broadband as the market evolves." |
