>>>ust simply change their software codes to allow direct link of banking cutomers with banks without CKFR?

I think you need to go back and read some of the past posts on this thread. In today's web based banking, consumers log directly on to a banks web site, pay their bills at the bank web site, everything is done at the bank web site. CF is behind the bank processing the Bill payment transactions. If what you are asking is the barriers to entry in this new market, there are many. Mostly being level of quality of service and the percentage of electronic transactions compared to non electronic. CF is currently over 50%, and soon to be 85% with the Visa Deal (CF has 1,149 billers hooked up electronically).

>>>Does CKFR's patent cover this issue ?

CF has a patent that deals with how third party bill payment processors can process transactions. IMO CheckFree has done a good job in dealing with old and new patent issues, and will continue to do so.

Hope this helps,

Benny
