Spain's Telefonica Names Ferreira Chmn Of Telesp Dow Jones Newswires MADRID -- Telecommunications giant Telefonica SA (TEF) said late Thursday that it has named Fernando Xavier Ferreira as chairman of both Telesp and one of its Brazilian cell-phone operating companies Telerj. In the recent break-up of Brazilian telecoms giant Telebras, the Spanish company outbid rivals to gain control of fixed-line company Telesp and the owner of Telerj, called Tele Sudeste Celular. Ferreira, who was born in 1949, was chairman of Telebras from 1995, Telefonica said in a press release.
