I have no idea, I think it's a rule of the exchange, but I am not totally sure. I believe I read this yesterday in the realtime chatroom #MTrader, Ken's place. Think it was posted by one of the traders there, and I believe I had heard it before somewhere.

So I am not absolutely sure on this, but I do believe it to be the case. You should probably ask a broker, surely they would know something like this.

BTW, if you could short an IPO I think they would drive these puppies way way down quick, it would be a LOT different. Along those same lines, I believe there is some other rule restricting the sale of the IPO stock by insiders for the first six month. Maybe Steve Goldman or someone can comment on this matter.
