Even though your argument is a killer, I am not sure I can agree with you 100 %. For consumer who can get cable service you are correct, ADSL is not competitive, but for the businesses, paing $400 a month for dedicated T1 with garanteed bandwidth ADSL it seems to be more cost effective. The big advantage ADSL has (especially outside of the US) is that there is 10 to 100 times as many telephone lines in most of the localities as there are cables.
