GM, Re:INTC shortage IMHO, the Y2K problem is playing right into INTC's hands and this is a major reason for the shortage. There has been anecdotal evidence to support this over the past several weeks. First, Compaq says they are experiencing a shortage of servers. Then HP comes out and says the same. Who are buying these systems? Surely not the home user. Companies(the ones who can afford to) are circumventing the Y2K problem by upgrading instead of debugging. On another subject but still pertaining to INTC, there is talk(rumor) by some that the delay of next year Merced into the new millenium is to prevent user waiting for the 64 bit Merced. Because of the leap from 32 bit to 64 bit, many argue that INTC has pushed-out the Merced to beef up their Xeon and put a smoother transition in place. Sounds good. Whether I buy it; I tend not to think so. I don't think INTC would delay a product they've worked so hard on, especially at a time when everyone is trying to steal their lunch. BK
