I am the happy owner of a couple of 21" Viewsonics!
Hey, I've been on this thread since its inception and this is my first purchase toward my dream machine that was supposed to be built months ago!
I walked into the store. They had monitors all over the place. On the floor, on shelves, in boxes. Whatever monitor you were interested in, they would plug it in and you would see if you could live with its problems. Most of the problems were in the tubes themselves (shadowing).
I came across two P815's that I could live with (no shadowing). One had a scratch on the front case and a 1/2 inch light scratch on the edge of the screen. The other one had no problems that I could see. They will get another shipment from Viewsonic in 3 weeks and I will go and pick up some more. They said their next shippment will have a lot of 21"ers. I looked at the PT813 and thought about what I was doing - resolution at 1024x768 - no graphics - so it probably wouldn't matter what monitor I used. The P815 has an .25 dot pitch, the PT813 is .28. So I opted to get the P815 (bird in the hand) rather than waiting for a few weeks and hoping for a good PT813. Maybe my next ones will be those, I'll just have to wait and see. They had a whole bunch of good G810's but I opted just to look at the higher end ones.
Master Repair - been in business for about 7 years. (801)568-2710 Utah - main hub (208) 322-9080 Idaho (503) 257-2708 Portland (702) 252-7311 Nevada
They buy the monitors from Viewsonic with no Warranty. Master Repair offers a 1 yr warranty. Their return rate is 1/10 of a percent. Basically, its rare that anyone ever returns one back.
Data Broadcasting, owners of Signal and BMI (quote services)called them up today and order 75 monitors!
The add said $500, but that was for a lower end 21". The P815 costs $600, but they sold it to me for $550 because I bought two. The PT813 costs $630. G810 $550. I thought of you guys and asked about shipping - they said as long as you don't use UPS. They like Fed X, or a trucker freight company - the best if you are buying a few and can put on slates.
Because they have blemishes, it depends upon how picky you are. What one person can live with, another person can't. They will look and tell you what the various blemishes are. I would be most concerned with the screen image (no shadowing), and would care less about a scratch on the case for a savings of $750 !
I also saw the 29". Its like a TV/monitor/speakers for presentations. Its black and beautiful. Sales for over $2000. Because it has a very small 1/4" chip in the upper left corner of the glass, its going for $600. It has a TV tube. I was about to walk out the door with that too, until they said the dot pitch is not comparible to a regular monitor. Anyone need it for presentations? It has a lot of stuff! May take a look at this product at their web site. It looks like a big black toy with lots of gadgets.
I feel I got a great deal. And that deal is always there. You just have to give them your name so they can call you when a new shipment comes in.
The only thing in my mind is if I was wrong in going with the P815, instead of waiting to see if they get some good PT813's in. Oh well.
