I think I agree with your comment but it certainly seems that a retailer must offer consistency of quality and delivery of services to make a mark. I don't see that with CompUSA. It certainly is easier for a wholesaler with less direct image to the public. The margins may be thin but they are not that bad since component costs have plummeted. Compaq still claims that their low price units are highly profitable. BTW I just saw an article about a $399 computer from Micro Center sporting a 180 Cyrix and 16MB.
