Can you please explain what buying puts on indices is exactly? I am a new investor; would this be risky to do?

Yeah, this thread definitely needs to be revived. The bulls think the run will go on forever, but they are in for a rude awakening if you ask me. Look at all of the obstacles that the bulls have in front of them: Asian contagion, President Clinton impeachment?, a year 2000 problem that may get fixed in the states but what about the rest of the world?, currency devaluations, a booming US economy that has been labeled as "unsustainable" (starting to see a big slowdown in earnings growth), and numerous conflicts throughout the world. Wait to money starts to come out of mutual funds as opposed to coming in-- the market will suffer tremendously!!!

I mentioned the year 2000 problem to my dad and his attitude was that a quick fix will be introduced and it will solve all the problems associated with the glitch. My research has told me otherwise.

The world has so many problems and issues to deal with that it is ultimately ignoring the Y2k glitch which I believe will ultimately lead to a global recession. I am not a fanatic of the year 2000, but will take some precautions. God help all of us.

My humble opinion
