As far as competition, yes, there are many others trying to do auction sites.

The power of eBay is that, as a buyer, you want to go somewhere that has almost anything you are looking for. With 600,000 auctions at any given time, you can find almost anything you want at eBay.

As a seller, you have a steady stream of traffic for the merchandise you want to sell. Why take a chance on another site with less traffic?

So, while there is nothing all that special about the technology to build an auction site, there is something quite special about having tons of buyers and sellers in one place.

Now, if only eBay would issue its shares via online auctions, that would be the way...

In fact, that WILL happen one day, and eBay will be the medium.

And, no, I do not work for eBay and am not affiliated with it in any way except as an auction buyer and seller.
