Hi Richard:
maybe you should start checking news releases at quote.yahoo.com and see so many companies reporting higher revenues...increasing profits(if you don't have the time, you can just read the headlines of the news stories because they usually boldly state the growth in revenue..but it is more interesting to see where the companies have come from)
also if you want to take more time..go to industry groups and look at companies currently in out of favor industries and look at their PES..
and watch to see when there is more consolidation in industries which will be bought out at bargain prices(at least according to their book value)
the internet stocks are a mania..we all know that..amazon.com has nothing proprietary..just seems that the market is made up of different players..a lot are just traders playing chicken with each other..but there are a lot of wise institutional investors(ie state of wisconsin for one, experienced money managers etc who look for value and growth)..the newspapers and cnbc can't get investors' attention if they just say be patient and buy something undervalued and walk away for a few years :> if they did..who would read and watch the shows?
(I am betting that there has been huge accumulation in the major gold shares and those deep pockets have deep patience)
I think if you start reading news releases about earnings, mergers, buybacks of shares, acquisitions etc besides looking at some industry charts to see the sharp rotational corrections..you might start seeing why some people don't think it is over yet..
ps.. I still think although most people now can find jobs if they want to, the cost saving practices so many corporations and companies have taken now for the benefit of their shareholder has created so much stress in the average worker and has eliminated so very many benefits..that the quality of life of most has gone down.. did you read that each year in the past few years 1 million a year are no longer covered by health insurance..with the creation of 14 million jobs..sad
ps. sounds as if another phone company striking to fight the overwork and for more benefits and wages
