I was at the Internet show in NYC yesterday and talked to a USR sales guy. He said the official time frame on the 56K upgrades is Feb-Mar but said (wink) it might be earlier. He said there has been a seasonal slump in corporate sales and that's why there has been a lot of discounting on the consumer retail end with rebates and free upgrades to push sales. He also felt there would be a flood of orders in the 2nd quarter. All in all he was very positive about the company's outlook. ATT Worldnet people were clueless about what they are doing. Said they are going to wait and see, but maybe the people I talked to just weren't up on the issue. The Compaq people didn't even know about the announcement about going with Rockwell so I counldn't get any idea of how committed they are. AOL said they are beta testing in 5 markets with corporate customers but don't really know when it will be available. AOL is however firmly in the x2 camp -- USR x2 signs all over. Surfing at 56K is great. I tried it. People will get this ASAP. Demand will be huge, gauranteed, people are not going to "what and see". USR actually had a pretty sad little booth but they're stuff seemed to get its share of attention.
