Interesting point.

That word synergy is getting to be a joke in the Valley here. As soon as technical people hear the word, they immediately think layoff. Here, it's known as the "S" word, and you shouldn't had oughta be using it. Just another of those 90's words, or whippy phrases that should disappear soon, like:

"I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree."
"Can you give me a date for a date?"
"Good will" (re mergers).
"Reduction in Force."
"Restructuring charge."

Re National, couldn't have happened to a "nicer" company.

No offence to any NSM employees, but NSM upper management hasn't seemed to be able to "get it" for a time span covering three or four decades now.
