Druss:

I think you've been hoodwinked. The Mac Millin Press used a questionable translator on the works of Chu Mei Ash. Most of their translations of the 'Zen of Shorting' are incorrect due to slight variations in dialect from the Kwanto region.

Sher Ri was not from the floating world (not that it was not an honorable position), but the daughter of a warrior-like shogun, Lord Kiku Ash, and therefore a samurai. They usually shorted with their killing swords, as was the custom of all samuria with honor. Clear and concise, it worked quiet well in the ancient Japanese markets.

Also of little note is the fact Chu Mei Ash was a eunuch. A requirement for all teachers of Zen.

I hope this helps in your quest for knowledge of the ancient writings.
