WEIGHTED SCROLLS

By
John R. Bailey Sr.

Note From the Author:

This was written in a dream that I had after a particularly good Sunday sermon by Pastor Butch of the Udorn Mission Church, Udorn-Thani, Thailand.

Personal Note:

John Bailey is a friend of my eldest sister from the 60's when I was still a pain (as little brothers go) in my sisters mind. In March 1998, I walked my eldest sister down Romans Road. She is online now and John and her have made contact after all these years. He emailed her this song and she forward to me. I asked John if I could use it and he said, "If you feel it will glorify God, use it". So I created this page. All the credit goes to God and John. Thanks John for letting me share this with all.

One night I went up to heavens gate. I was met by and angel who told me to wait. His right hand held scroll of the good I'd done, the left hand held my sins in a much larger one. He said that when weighing my good and bad, my situation was looking very sad.

Tell me boy what works you have done to make you think your're a chosen one. Surely there's something in your life that's good. I'll not let you pass unless you prove that I should.

My mind was reeling, thinking what I could say. To make that angel get out of my way. The more good deeds I tried to show, the larger my scroll of sins seemed to grow. Then I remembered there's nothing I could do in life or death that could get me through.

Tell me boy what works you have done. To make you think your're a chosen one. Surely there's something in your life that's good. I'll not let you pass unless you prove that I should.

Then I said to that angel to step aside. I hear my master calling to me from inside. I told the angel that when I was still livin' I had called on Jesus and my sins were forgiven. The angel laughed as if it were a big joke. The scrolls in his hands vanished in a puff of smoke.

Tell me boy what works you have done. To make you think your're a chosen one. Surely there's something in your life that's good. I'll not let you pass unless you prove that I should.

He said, you can't win 'em all, there's some you loose, you had one chance left to life or death choose. I knew that I had faced Satan the Liar, and he had failed to trick me into the fire. When I had awakened to start a new day, all I had seen began to pass away.

Hay, Boy, there's nothing you have done that could ever make you a chosen one. There's nothing but Jesus in your life that's good. He will love you when no one else could.

I'm only human, to my sins I will add, but I want my scrolls to have more good than bad. Oh, I know I'm saved and my sins are forgiven, I just want to please God by the way I'm livin'.

Hay, Boy, there's nothing you have done that could ever make you a chosen one. There's nothing but Jesus in your life that's good. He will love you when no one else could.
