What you are missing is that all the IXCs need access
to customers right now. FON was counting on its ability
to lease DSL lines from the RBOCs for accessing businesses
with its ION network. To deploy ION, it needs immediate
help for last mile access to businesses. The idea
is to buy the most mature CLEC. This is why T went after
Teleport. The most mature wireless CLEC at the current time
is WCII.
