Marginmike:

As of right now, companies such as, inter alia, Ericy, Nokia, Lucent and Motorolla haven't signed licensing agreements for W-CDMA (or whatever QCOM calls it). Are you familiar with Rambus? Remember how some DRAM manufacturers balked at Rambus's 1% sales tribute?

More about patents, yes qualcomm has a bunch of patents. Don't you think Ericy has a bunch of CDMA patents? How about Nokia? The patents in question are less than 10, and as I recall, number 4. Wireless companies are full of engineers. Engineers solve problems. Given that, another company can think up a novel method for whatever QCOM is patenting!

Just because you have a patent doesn't mean it is a worthwhile invention. The interpretation of the patent and the claimed invention are what's important.

In conclusion, remember what I say: Less than 1 percent of all patents are worthwhile inventions. Even less generate revenue for the assignee. Care to debate that?

take care,

dave
