Hello Timbo,

I'm not officially a CPA yet as I haven't worked for a year in a public accounting firm, but I just passed the test. I really do hate tax, but I think I can answer your question.

The 1996 tax would be equal to

84020.50 + .396(500,000 - 263750)

You don't subtract the 84020 out of the second part of the equation.

I hope I'm right!
