This recent Dawson piece may have been a partial source of the FON rumor (valid or not):

"Sprint Weighs ION Access, Technology Options"
zdnet.com

A worthy exercise of the AIN/IP issues (similar to what LEVL is addressing with XCOM). And as FON's ION plans are ATM-based, WCII's earlier this week contract announcement to Hughes Network Systems ATM capable TDMA P-MP system is another argument to goodness of fit.

WCII is making sure the technology it can offer is what the major IXCs need for their BB network access plans.

And we know that neither cable nor ADSL can offer this kind of BW:

"..Kantor added, "For the first time, the resources and features of the much-heralded information superhighway will be affordable to nearly everyone, at speeds in excess of 200 megabits per second. Such speeds have previously been associated only with high-capacity, high-cost private corporate data networks...""

Certainly a reasonable *guess* that FON MIGHT be considering taking a percentage stake in WCII, to ensure it has the enterprise access it's much heralded ION will need.
