Not that these are necessarily bad, it's just that you're not getting 3 years. Your getting a two-year extension (one of which was already covered by that gold Mastercard <G>). Remember, at the end of a year, your warrantee is on junk that's obsolete. NOBODY's obligated to upgrade anything under warranty, just replace the junk. What would a 3-year warranty on a 1-gig disk drive be worth today? Compare to two years ago. Gateway "in-house" isn't. It's not a scam (I don't think), but diagnostics aren't done in-house. They will (they claim) dispatch a technician to install previously diagnosed faulty parts. One of the few really serious complaints about Dell's service from surveys (eg, PC World) is in regard to the "in house" service. It's easy to miss or misunderstand details. I'm not saying these are necessarily bad deals, but you have to understand the details to evaluate them. Spots
