I agree that for most people holding is better than trading. Successful short term trading is a full time job in and of itself. But if you have enough time to research longs, you have enough time to research shorts. If you don't have enough time to research, stick with mutual funds, and those even require some research. The 3 legged horses don't come around that often, but when they do long term short and hold is a nice way to hedge your market risk. companies like Enamelon, Panda Project, and C Phone are pretty good examples from my portfolio. There was just no way they were going to do anything but fall into oblivion, given the passage of time.
