Also, there is a $100 rebate on Microsoft Office 98 (cost
$479, $379 after rebate) if purchased within 60 days of iMac
purchase. And Aladdin (www.aladdinsys.com) is offering
discounts on Stuffit Deluxe and other products.

What's Really Different ? The iMac has no floppy drive, no
SCSI ports, no ADB ports, and no serial ports. This means
that many traditional Macintosh peripherals are not
compatible. The good news is that the iMac has the new USB
(universal serial bus), a high speed bus that is just
becoming popular in the Wintel world, so that within a few
months there will be a wide variety of peripherals available
at lower prices than traditional Mac only products. iMac
also has 10/100baseT ethernet built-in along with a 56Kbps
V.90 modem.

Backup over the web: http://www. backjack.com and
imacbackup.com both offer internet backup
services. Through September 30, 1998 BackJack has a special
deal for Tekserve customers-100 MB free transfer credit.
Simple email your BackJack account number to
Tekserve@backjack.com and you'll receive the credit on your
BackJack invoice.

Floppy disks and removable storage-The Imation SuperDisk
drive for $189 should ship real soon now. It reads and
writes regular 1.4 FDHD floppy disks and also handles 120
Meg LS-120 SuperDisks. Iomega is expected to ship a USB
version of their Zip drive by year end.

Printers-The iMac has 10/100 BaseT ethernet port, so out of
the box it can print to any Ethernet printer, such as the
Epson 850N, HP LaserJet 4000N, Apple LaserWriter 12/640,
16/600, 630, IIg, etc. For AppleTalk printers (Apple
StyleWriter 4500, HP DeskJet 870, LaserJet 6MP, older
LaserWriters, etc, you can use a Farallon PN 842-1 EtherWave
printer adapter which we have in stock for $109. The 842-1
supports a single AppleTalk device. To connect to an
existing AppleTalk network, you need the Farallon PN848-1
which supports up to 8 devices on the AppleTalk side.

Epson has announced several USB printers, including the
Stylus Color 640 and 740 which are expected to ship within
two months. Epson has announced an adapter to allow their
Stylus Color 600 to work with the iMac, but it hasn't
shipped. HP has announced an adapter for several of their
printers, but it hasn't shipped. Griffin and Momentum have
announced USB to serial adapters, but the ship dates are
unknown.

RAM-The iMac has two RAM sockets, the lower socket comes
with 32 Meg of RAM in it. The upper socket is empty can
accept a single 32, 64 or 128 Meg module. So we can quickly
upgrade iMacs to 160 megs of RAM, more slowly to 192 Megs of
RAM, and in a few months to 384 Megs or higher.

Video RAM-the iMac has two Meg of SGRAM. We can add two more
Megs for $59 or 4 more megs for $99. Adding 2 Meg of SGRAM
enables millions of colors at the 1024 x 768 resolution.
Adding four Meg of SGRAM enables SGRAM enables millions of
colors at the 1024 x 768 resolution and may speed the
display of certain complex QuickDraw graphics.

ADB Devices, Scanners, etc-Griffin has announced an ADB to
USB adapter that will allow use of older ADB keyboards and
other devices with the iMac. Umax is already shipping their
1220U USB Scanner, and we expected the Macintosh enabled
software for this to ship soon. Many other scanner vendors
have also announced USB scanners for the next quarter.<
