The Japanese have been fiddling around with financial reform
for most of this decade. This contagion falls squarely on
their shoulders. Their corruption and close ties to the
corrupt financial institutions have come home to roost. They've
been trying to hide as much of it as they can. They were hoping
foreign investments using subsidized government rates of 0.5% would
bail them out. Instead, they made more bad loans and bad foreign
stock investments.
