John, how very, very interesting that is. Tiny babies are almost without the ability to just stare off into space and think! As a matter of fact, they are constantly staring people right in the eyes, and looking from person to person. The ceiling simply could not entertain a baby.

I have a little dog which is part pomeranian. Part of his unbelievable charm is his little circus dog thing. Always with me, and when he sees people he has grown fond of, he gets on his hind legs and paws the air with an actaul smile on his face if he's on a leash and can't run to see you. He truly is a darling little guy, and has a large range of emotions.

I was at Yosemite Park with only the dogs that day, and quite enjoying some time at a campground with mostly everyone gone but the year round caretaker. I was all alone at the campground. There were no cars around even. I was reading the Bible that day and ruminating on certain things and felt a very close presence of the Lord and shut my eyes. But I opened them because my dog was doing his excited noise, kind of panting and whining at the same time, but it is a happy little noise, and usually amuses everyone a lot. He was tethered to a leash and straining at the end of it, on his hind legs pawing the air, obviously looking at something right in front of him, but there was nothing. He was interacting with the someone, and he knew whoever it was, and that was what so amazed me. I am sure he did see something, as I could feel it but not see it. You have to understand that this little animal, like many little dogs, is obnoxiously protective. . Whatever he saw, he loved, with no thought for my safety whatsoever. So, just like babies, dogs don't look off into space and go bananas just for the fun of it.

It seems unfair that babies and dogs can see angels or the Lord, and we can't. Is it because in this advanced civilization such a sight would prove to be our downfall, attempting to get people to believe it? Perhaps that's why, for our own good. Who knows.
