DJ; RE:" O "

Thank you for the fine book, it arrived today! I know MadameGonzo and I will both enjoy discovering great German Lit.

L'affaire Clinton is a lurid sideshow; people are tiring of it, and most folks are loathe to change the political leadership outside of the electoral process - especially our Treasury/Financial leaders, who most believe have done a great job so far. Still, it's great theatre, and football season doesn't start until next month.

There's not much else on American teevee, save the weather, which is HOT: Record crops across the flatlands, agricultural prices down. We have no idea why anyone would want to blow up our embassies - most of us are unaware that Clinton even has a foreign policy, much less one that would be pissing people off.

As Berney mentioned, the thing this week is the Fed. In the last few quarters, stocks have gone down after the Fed has announced "no increase" in the kost of kapital, in the short-term; then rallied or, at the very least, stabilised. The intra-day charts show prices being bid up in anticipation of the announcement. Then quiet, as the world holds its breath. At the announcement, all hell breaks loose, and stocks go all over the place. Then they go down, which seems to surprise everybody. Should be fun!
