<<BUSINESS WEEK HAS AN ARTICLE ON NOVELL TITLED:

NOVELL HAS TO HIT THE GAS>>

IMHO the short article in Busniess Week was really a non-event. They harp on the fact that Schmidt has yet to show much revenue growth since he's been the CEO at Novell. I'm wondering, am I naive to thinking Novell has an optimistic future, or is there some sort of disconnect in what certain analysts say (negatively) about Novell versus the timeframe that is logically necessary for the company to make the transition from the old, to the new?

Either way, the writers of this article were mentioning that Schmidt still hadn't succeeded in one of his goals of turning Novell into an "internet company" and then they compare Novell's $3.5 billion market cap with Yahoo's $8 billion, saying that Yahoo can get this valuation on only ~65 million in revenues. So I guess Novell has to get an internet valuation in market cap before one considers it an internet company. OK, I'll buy that! But for some reason I don't think Schmidt is trying to build such a "hyped" valuation, he's trying to build a business.

I guess we just have to sit back and see what unfolds. BTW, Novell had a nice ad in the PCMag this week. Mentions that "it is tomorrow....and we have Netware 5.0 today" -- also something to the affect......."this isn't a preannouncement, this isn't vaporware,...." and also mentioned near the bottom of the ad that "of course you can still wait for the competitors next Beta release"

I hope they put this as a one pager in WSJ or NY Times.

Regards,

QuadK
