"The data is 5 weeks old, but this is as close as one is likely to get for free."

When you consider that short interest is 2 weeks old by the time it's released to the public, what difference does it make?

Sorry, this is one of my pet peeves. There is no reason why short interest couldn't be published daily nowadays. I'll repeat my past encouragement that everyone write a letter to Nasdaq, NYSE, and the SEC encouraging them to make it so. The only ones that benefit from the nondisclosure of short interest are the broker dealers, who are able to extrapolate current short interest from their records, at a minimum.
