Frank,

It's posts like yours that make me remember what SI is all about. Thanks for putting some meat onto my observation. Now I can look smart if the subject comes up at the office!

In thinking about it some more, a marriage between QWST and LVLT seems to make even more sense from a fundamental perspective. But even though I said before the management teams would do well together, now I'm not so sure and that might hurt the chances of a merger. QWST hasn't really shown (IMO) the inclination to place the correct level of importance to developing expertise relative to IP technology, OSS development, operations support, etc...ie, all the elements of a true business model (I'm looking for more than simply hiring 14 disgruntled Sprint people who don't like ION...and don't even get me started on Supernet. LCI brings ops benefits but nothing regarding IP). OTOH you are saying that LVLT has been doing all this fundamental work that really implies a complete business model.

If they marry, I'd want to see Jim Crowe and team take the lead. Not likely that QWST would agree to that. And there's absolutely no way Crowe would merge and let QWST's people who lack the vision for the complete picture run the show.

The key is probably Anschutz. While Nacchio is a control freak I think Anschutz will be more inclined to go with the right model if the benefits are clear.

Mark L - you still glad I'm back? <G!>

Phil
