Compliments of the AOL Message Board:
Recent E-mails from Pan American Motorsports:
"We have already held three races: Halet, OK., Twin Falls, ID. and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. But, to address your concern, we are running a reduced scheduel in 1998 tied directly to our acquisition of the American IndyCar Series from Bill Tempero, its founder who continues to serve as a consultant to us.
We have eliminated some of the races which did not offer a profit or adequate promotion to draw a spectator base significant enough to run these cars. What most people do not understand is that these cars cost approximately $8,000 to $10,000 to run for a single weekend event. The 1999 schedule will be at least 10 and possibly 12 races in length, a good number of these already in the final stages of negotiation. Thanks for your inquiry. Please feel free to contact us with any future questions regarding this great racing series.

So the 98 season could only consist of three races??
"Our 1998 scheduel has undergone some significant changes since our acquisition of the American IndyCar Series. We have a race in Calgary, Alberta running on September 19 & 20 and another race in Birmingham, Alabama during the last weekend of October. We are currently debating moving the last race, Caracas, Venzuela, to the first race of the 1999 season. Also, Willow Springs is still being debated."
