Hi Donald Re:"I am using greater than a 15% decline in the DOW and SPX as my parameters to determine a bear market"

I'm surprised to see you use that as a method of describing a bear market.

Would it not be better to use the slope of moving averages to determine bear or bull market?

I mean that if the market had been in a state of overall decline for the last 5 years and we had a momentary spike up of ~15% would that then be a bull market? I think not .. just a correction of 15% magnitude.

Gersh
