In re: Russia. Thank you, David and R.Hummer, for offering much food for sobering thought as regards this seemingly opaque part of the world. It is said that the prevailing climate of near chaos in Russia is "ripe for the ascension of the strong man." In which case, the name of the popular, erstwhile presidential hopeful, General Lebed, is often floated. Lebed is noted for his no nonsense style and publicly avowed intolerance for corruption.

Winston Churchill once observed that "Russia is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma." Others reflect that Russia reminds them today of the worst of the Chicago's 1930 gangster era with corruption that seemingly pervades every level of the social, political, legal, and economic "order." One can only imagine the horrific outcome had Alphonse Capone and his ilk access to weapons of mass destruction and their terrible blackmailing and extortive power.
In any case, for all his warts but to his credit, Mr. Bow Tie has, for years running, steadfastly opposed any investment in Russia and/or in companies garnering large exposure there. Bow Tie has predicted, to recall it, a complete disintegration of that country into much smaller fragments. |
