JPR: It certainly adds to the overall scheme of the the photograph and render a certain additional feminine quality to the picture.

Oh boy I sound like a pseudo-art-critic now don't I ? <VBG>

PS:On a somewhat similar topic, where I come from little infants are presented with gold chains to wear around their waste by their relatives, silver is substituted for gold by families of lesser means. Other gifts are gold chains, bangles, rings, ankle bracelets etc are other popular gift items for the newborns.I don't know how prevalent this practice is in other states but I have a hunch it is probably similiar considering the popularity of gold and silver in the country.
