You might want to read the comments in its entirety before you make your statements. The newsletter writer was stating that his index which includes juniors is down 85% to the same level as 1974, which is comparable to the 1929 crash in DOW stocks (down 89%). The XAU is down less than that because it excludes junior mining companies. As for the juniors they have been in the forefront of international gold mine exploration for some. The effects of the lack of exploration in the last 2 years will have an impact in the near future. It is through the efforts of companies like Arequipa that producers like Barrick can now boast about the Pierina mine about to produce 750,000 oz of gold at a cash cost of $50 per oz. FYI Arequipa was purchased by Barrick for $1 billion in 1996.
